Software Tools for Mathematics

24 - 28 September 2018
Koper, Slovenia

General information

The workshop is aimed at students and researchers who want to improve the computing skills they need for their studies and research.

  • We will start by two days of Software Carpentry training, covering the Unix shell, version control with Git, and programming with Python), delivered by Software Carpentry instructors.
  • The GAP mini-course on Wednesday will be led by Alexander Konovalov.
  • The remaining two days will be dedicated to other math-oriented research tools, such as SageMath and CoCalc (Samuel Lelièvre), LaTeX topics for the working mathematician (Nino Bašić) and contributed talks.

We value the diversity of the mathematics software ecosystem, and promote connections among the established solutions and related communities.

On Sunday evening (September 23rd) there will be an unofficial software install party for early comers. We will gather in the Museum Cafe (next to FAMNIT) at 20:00.

Opening remarks will be on Monday, September 24th at 9:15. Lectures start at 9:30.

We'll take a workshop photo on Wednesday at 13:00, after the morning lectures.

The conference dinner is free for all participants and will take place Wednesday evening (September 26th) at 19:00 in Hiša Refoška. You are expected to announce your choice at the registration desk. If you will not be able to register on Monday, please send us an email. If you have any special requirements (e.g. gluten-free), please let us know.
